The New York State Military Museum in Saratoga Springs hold two flags carried by Battery I during the Civil War: its Federal guidon and its battery flag.

Above is the Pattern 1862 silk swallowtail guidon carried by Battery I. It originally had 35 gold painted stars in the blue canton, indicating it was produced after West Virginia was admitted to the Union on 20 June 1863, and before 4 July 1865, when the pattern was officially altered after Nevada was added as the 36th state on 31 October 1864.

In March 1864, Battery I (from Buffalo, NY) received this silk, two-sided flag from “friends of the Battery.” Exposure to harmful light rays caused the flag’s color to fade to a light yellow from the original more reddish hue still visible along the staff sleeve. 36" x 35.5"
